Regular Season Round 13: Guerreros - Fuerza Regia 107-101

There was a minor upset when 11th ranked Fuerza Regia (5-7) was defeated on the road by thirteenth ranked Guerreros (4-9) 107-101 on Saturday. Fuerza Regia trailed by 18 points at halftime and as many as 24 after three quarters before a 39-21 last quarter charge cut the deficit to 101-107 at the end of the game. Guerreros dominated down low during the game scoring 74 of its points in the paint compared to Fuerza Regia's 44. American forward Travis Gabbidon (201, college: UTSA) stepped up and scored 30 points and 7 rebounds (on 13-of-17 shooting from the field) for the winners and his fellow American import point guard Michael Hunter (178, college: Cal-Irvine) chipped in 25 points and 10 assists. Gabbidon is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top summer league for players who want to play basketball overseas. At the losing side Nigerian-Jamaican guard Oritseweyinmi Efejuku (196-86, college: Providence) responded with 32 points and 4 assists and center Lance Allred (211-81, college: Weber St., agency: SportsTalent) produced a double-double by scoring 10 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Newly promoted Guerreros maintains thirteenth place with 4-9 record. Loser Fuerza Regia keeps the eleventh position with seven games lost. Guerreros will meet at home higher ranked Pioneros (#6) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Fuerza Regia will play against Osos (#14) and hope to secure a win.
