Regular Season Round 3: Start Gdynia - Polpharma 69-71 OT

Start Gdynia (#12) forced the game against Polpharma (#6) into an overtime, but lost by two points 69-71. The game took place in Gdynia. But the guests from Starogard were better at the end. It looked good early as Start Gdynia took an 1-point lead at the end of first quarter. Then Polpharma had a 24-15 second period charge getting the lead. Then Start Gdynia managed to tie the game at the end of regular time, but lost overtime period 4-6. 25 personal fouls committed by Start Gdynia helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. It was an exceptional evening for American point guard Jawan Carter (180-87, college: Delaware) who led the winners and scored 26 points. His fellow American import power forward Ben McCauley (206-86, college: N.Carolina St.) accounted for 16 points and 10 rebounds for the winning side. Power forward Tomasz Wojdyla (201-77) came up with 16 points and 9 rebounds and Patryk Pelka (202-89) added 14 points and 10 rebounds respectively for Start Gdynia in the defeat. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Polpharma (2-1) moved-up to third place, which they share with 4 other teams. Newly promoted Start Gdynia still closes the standings with three games lost. Polpharma's next round opponent will be Energa Czarni (#9) in Slupsk which should be theoretically an easy game. Start Gdynia will play at home against AZS Koszalin and hopes to get finally their first victory.
