No shocking result in a game in Nagoya where fifth ranked Mitsubishi K. (4-1) defeated 8th ranked Niigata (1-4) 83-71. The game was mostly controlled by Mitsubishi K.. Niigata was better in fourth quarter 29-22. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Niigata to just 7 points in second quarter. Mitsubishi K. made 17-of-20 charity shots (85.0 percent) during the game. Swingman Mitiko Miyamoto (175-86) notched 25 points to lead the effort and guard Yasuko Hashimoto (163-82) supported her with 16 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists (perfect from the field making all six shots). Even 17 points and 5 rebounds by forward Inoue Ai (172-90) did not help to save the game for Niigata. Guard Seiko Kawakami (165-88) added 13 points. Four Niigata players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Mitsubishi K. moved-up to fourth place. Niigata at the other side dropped to the ninth position with four games lost. Mitsubishi K.'s next round opponent will be again Niigata (#9) in Tokyo where they are favorite.
