Regular Season Round 1: Hapoel Eilat - Elizur Ashkelon 78-74

Date: October 14, 2012
Very expected game when 10th ranked Ironi Ashkelon (3-5) was defeated on the road by third ranked Hapoel Eilat (7-2) 78-74. However just four-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. The hosts were tied after three quarters but managed to speed up in last quarter eventually winning the game. Hapoel Eilat made 21-of-25 charity shots (84.0 percent) during the game. The game was dominated by American players. It was a very good performance for power forward Eli Holman (208-89, college: Detroit Mercy) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 21 points and 20 rebounds. Guard Austin Freeman (190-89, college: Georgetown) contributed with 17 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. Forward Marcus Dove (206-85, college: Oklahoma St.) answered with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 10 rebounds and guard Marcus Moore (198-80, college: Washington St., agency: Laszlo Vinko Group) added 20 points and 6 assists in the effort for Ironi Ashkelon. Four Ironi Ashkelon players scored in double figures. Hapoel Eilat have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to second place. Ironi Ashkelon at the other side dropped to the eighth position with five games lost. They share it with Bnei Hasharon. Hapoel Eilat will play against Maccabi Rishon (#7) in Rishon Le-Zion in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Ironi Ashkelon will play at home against the league's leader Maccabi T-A in Tel-Aviv and hopes to get back on the winning track.
