Regular Season Round 4: BC Nokia - Honka 78-91
Date: October 14, 2012
Bottom-ranked BC Nokia (0-3) is still winless. But it was rather predictable considering how strong their opponent was. This time they could not use their home court advantage losing their third consecutive match to top-ranked Honka (3-0) 91-78. The game was mostly controlled by Honka. BC Nokia was better in fourth quarter 21-20. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They made 23-of-29 charity shots (79.3 percent) during the game. Honka forced 20 BC Nokia turnovers. 24 personal fouls committed by BC Nokia helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. It was a very good performance for American guard Melissa Jeltema (175-88, college: Oakland) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 32 points and 11 rebounds. Forward Tuuli Menna (183-96) contributed with 21 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. American guard Amani Franklin (180-88, college: Kentucky) replied with 14 points and 7 rebounds and her fellow American import forward Shakara Jones (187-88, college: Missouri) added 11 points and 8 rebounds in the effort for BC Nokia. Five BC Nokia players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Honka have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to second place, which they share with PeKa. BC Nokia at the other side, also newcomer in the league, still closes the standings with three games lost. Honka's next round opponent will be Peli-Karhut (#3) in Kotka, which may be the game of the day. BC Nokia will play on the road against HoNsU (#7) in Jyvaskyla and looks forward to get finally their first victory.
