Regular Season Round 5: Widzew - Artego Bydg. 64-84

PLKK top team - Artego Bydg. (4-0) had no problems winning another game on Wednesday. This time they crushed eleventh ranked Widzew (0-5) in Lodz 84-64. The game was mostly controlled by Artego Bydg.. Widzew managed to win third quarter 25-19. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Artego Bydg. dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Widzew's 34. Artego Bydg. forced 22 Widzew turnovers and outrebounded them 36-24 including a 14-2 advantage in offensive rebounds. Nigerian-American center Charity Szczechowiak (191-85, college: SF Austin) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 24 points and 11 rebounds for the winners and American guard Julie McBride (165-82, college: Syracuse) chipped in 27 points. Artego Bydg.'s coach Tomasz Herkt used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Power forward Anna Tondel (183-77, agency: Promotex) responded with 17 points and 7 rebounds and forward Aleksandra Pawlak (189-84) scored 17 points. Artego Bydg. have a solid series of four victories in a row. They maintain first place with 4-0 record, which they share with Wisla Can-Pak and CCC Polkowice. Widzew at the other side still closes the standings with five games lost. Artego Bydg. is looking forward to face PTK Pabianice (#9) at home in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Widzew will play against ROW Rybnik and hopes to get finally their first victory.
