Regular Season Round 8: Toyota A. - Hitachi Cougars 80-64

Bottom-ranked Hitachi Cougars (0-7) is still winless. This time they lost on the road their seventh consecutive match to sixth ranked Toyota A. (4-3) 80-64. It looked good early as Hitachi Cougars took an 1-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Toyota A. had a 21-16 second period charge getting the lead and Hitachi Cougars were not able to take back game control losing it eventually 64-80. They outrebounded Hitachi Cougars 36-25 including 29 on the defensive glass. Toyota A. brought some defensive toughness making 7 blocks. The winners were led by the former international forward Ryoko Yano (178-78) who scored that evening 20 points and 7 rebounds and power forward Mami Ikeda (178-81) supported her with 11 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. Toyota A.'s coach Toshihiro Goto allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Even 17 points and 4 assists by guard Hiroko Noda (164-83) did not help to save the game for Hitachi Cougars. Aiko Ishihara (178-92) added 12 points and 5 rebounds for the guests. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Toyota A. have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain sixth position with 4-3 record. Newly promoted Hitachi Cougars still closes the standings with seven games lost. Toyota A. will again play against bottom-ranked Hitachi Cougars (#12) in Hitachinaka in the next round where they are favorite. Hitachi Cougars will play on the road against Ebara Vickies in Tokyo and hope to get finally their first victory.
