Regular Season Round 3: Athinaikos - PAOK 85-51
Date: October 20, 2012
The most crucial game of the last round was the first loss of undefeated PAOK (2-1) in Athens on Saturday night. Visitors were rolled over by Athinaikos (3-0) 85-51. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of PAOK. It was a key game for the top position in the league as both teams had the same 2-0 record before this meeting. The game without a history. Athinaikos led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated on the defensive end, holding PAOK to just 4 points in first quarter. It was a good game for the former international power forward Afroditi Kosma (187-83) who led her team to a victory with 19 points and 8 rebounds. The former international guard Aikaterini Spatharou (172-83, agency: Josep and Nicolas) contributed with 15 points and 4 steals for the winners. The former international guard Nafsika Stavridou (182-86) answered with 15 points and 5 rebounds and Canadian forward Kayla Dykstra (188-87) added 13 points and 10 rebounds in the effort for PAOK. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Athinaikos have a solid series of three victories in a row. Defending champion keeps a position of league leader, which they share with Panathinaikos and AO Ellinikou. PAOK at the other side keeps the fourth place with one game lost. They share the position with Kronos AD and Terpsithea. Athinaikos is looking forward to face GAC Eunikos (#10) in Liosa in the next round and are hoping to win another game. PAOK will play against Terpsithea (#5) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
