Regular Season Round 3: Nanterre - ASVEL 90-77

Round 3 in ProA means a new league leader. The biggest surprise took place in Nanterre where host JSF Nanterre (1-2) beat league's leader ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne Basket (2-1) 90-77 on Saturday evening. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne Basket. The game without a history. JSF Nanterre led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 64 of its points in the paint compared to ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne Basket's 40. The best player for the winners was American swingman David Lighty (195-88, college: Ohio St.) who scored 23 points. His fellow American import forward Chris Oliver (198-85, college: Radford) chipped in 22 points (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field). Four JSF Nanterre players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was the former international guard Edwin Jackson (191-89) who recorded 18 points and 5 rebounds (went 9 for 9 at the free throw line !!!) and Nigerian power forward Uche Nsonwu-Amadi (208-78, college: Wyoming, agency: Beo Basket) added 12 points and 8 rebounds respectively. ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne Basket's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. JSF Nanterre left bottom position moving up to tenth place, which they share with 5 other teams. ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne Basket at the other side still keeps top position with one game lost. They were joined at the leadership position by Cholet who have the same record. ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne Basket will play next round against league's leader Cholet trying to make it back to the top of the standings. JSF Nanterre will try to continue on its current victory against fourth ranked Paris-Levallois on the road.
