Everything could happen in Ciudad Victoria at the game between two tied teams. Both ninth ranked Barreteros and 10th ranked Correcaminos had identical 7-7 record. But Correcaminos were not able to use a home court advantage and were defeated by the opponent from Zacatecas 101-96 on Saturday night. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Correcaminos won fourth quarter 28-23. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Barreteros made 20-of-23 free shots (87.0 percent) during the game. It was a great shooting night for Barreteros especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 52.4 percentage. Americans were the main players on the court. The best player for the winners was forward Jerome Habel (208-85, college: San Diego St.) who had a double-double by scoring 23 points and 17 rebounds. Guard Lamont Sumpter (183-86, college: McMurry) chipped in 25 points. Five Barreteros players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was forward Rodney Alexander (201-87, college: Oklahoma City) who recorded a double-double by scoring 27 points and 12 rebounds and forward Ronald Selleaze (197-76, college: CSU Bakersfield, agency: Dream Team Management) added 19 points and 8 rebounds respectively. Barreteros (8-7) moved-up to seventh place, which they share with Abejas. Loser Correcaminos dropped to the eleventh position with eight games lost. Barreteros will meet at home higher ranked Panteras (#5) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Correcaminos will play against Huracanes (#9) in Tampico and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
