Regular Season Round 5: Sparta - Soleuvre 90-81

There was no surprise in Bertrange where 6th ranked Soleuvre (2-3) was defeated by leader Sparta (5-0) 90-81. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Soleuvre won third quarter 27-19. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Sparta players were unselfish on offense dishing 22 assists. 25 personal fouls committed by Soleuvre helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. American point guard Kasey Ulin (181-82, college: Dickinson St.) nailed 19 points, 9 rebounds and 8 assists for the winning side and the former international forward Larrie Smith (198-75, college: Tenn Tech) accounted for 20 points and 13 rebounds. American forward Torye Pelham (198-87, college: S.Mississippi) came up with a double-double by scoring 28 points and 14 rebounds and the other American import swingman Mychal Green (193-83, college: Ohio) added 22 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists respectively for Soleuvre in the defeat. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. The victory was the fifth consecutive win for Sparta. Defending champion keeps a position of league leader, which they share with Etzella. Soleuvre at the other side dropped to the fifth place with three games lost. Sparta's next round opponent will be Basket Esch (#9) on the road and are hoping to win another game. Soleuvre will play against Musel Pikes (#5) in Stadrbredimus and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
