Very expected game when bottom-ranked Gunma (0-6) was crushed on the road by leader Akita Happinets (4-0) 100-57 on Sunday. The game without a history. Akita Happinets led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. Akita Happinets outrebounded Gunma 49-36 including 35 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. Gunma was plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. Guard Shigehiro Taguchi (184-90) stepped up and scored 25 points for the winners and American forward T.J. Cummings (205-81, college: UCLA, agency: Top Notch Sports) chipped in 16 points and 10 rebounds. Five Akita Happinets players scored in double figures. American power forward Lewis Witcher (207-87, college: Virginia Tech) responded with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 12 rebounds and the other American import center Thomas Granado (208-88, college: Concordia Irvine) scored 12 points and 5 rebounds. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for Akita Happinets. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with Okinawa GK and Shimane SM. Gunma lost their sixth game in a row. Newly promoted team still closes the standings with six games lost. Akita Happinets will have a break next round. Gunma will play on the road against the league's leader Iwate Big Bulls (#1) and hopes to get finally their first victory.
