There was a minor upset in Thessaloniki where one of their biggest challengers Ikaros (1-1) was crushed by eleventh ranked PAOK (1-1) 71-48 on Sunday. The hosts trailed by 1 point after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 5-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 71-48. PAOK dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Ikaros' 28. American-Irish guard Donnie McGrath (193-84, college: Providence) scored 16 points and 5 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and power forward Mihalis Tsairelis (207-88) chipped in 13 points (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field) during the contest. Guard Alexis Kiritsis (198-82) responded with 24 points and American point guard Danny Gibson (180-84, college: S.Indiana, agency: Limelight Hoops) scored 8 points and 5 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. PAOK left bottom position moving up to fourth place, which they share with 7 other teams including defeated Ikaros. PAOK will face KAOD (#8) in Dramas in the next round. Ikaros will play at home against the league's second-placed Olympiacos (#2) in Athens and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
