Regular Season Round 2: Hapoel Holon - Maccabi Ashdod 84-62
Date: October 21, 2012
Very predictable result when top-ranked Hapoel Holon (1-0) smashed at home bottom-ranked Maccabi Ashdod (0-2) 84-62 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by Hapoel Holon. Maccabi Ashdod managed to win fourth quarter 19-16. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Hapoel Holon made 10 blocks. The best player for the winners was American forward Frank Hassell (203-88, college: ODU) who had a double-double by scoring 12 points, 19 rebounds and 5 blocks. The other American import forward Lawrence Hill (203-87, college: Stanford) chipped in 15 points, 9 rebounds and 4 blocks. American forward Diamon Simpson (201-87, college: St.Mary's, CA) produced 16 points and 9 rebounds and the former international point guard Dror Hagag (178-78, agency: Avi Zilberman) added 10 points and 7 rebounds respectively for the guests. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Hapoel Holon left bottom position moving up to fourth place, which they share with Maccabi Haifa. Loser Maccabi Ashdod still closes the standings with two games lost. They share the position with 3 other teams. Hapoel Holon will meet Maccabi Haifa (#5) on the road in the next round. Maccabi Ashdod will play against Bnei Hasharon (#6) in Hod Hasharon.
