Regular Season Round 2: Netanya - Bnei Hasharon 78-77
Date: October 22, 2012
The most crucial game of the last round was the first loss of undefeated Bnei Hasharon (1-1) on the court of top-ranked GreenTops Netanya. Visitors were edged by GreenTops Netanya 78-77. It was a key game for the top position in the league as both teams had the same 1-0 record before this meeting. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 25-17. But Bnei Hasharon won second period 20-15. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Americans were the main players on the court. Power forward Marco Killingsworth (203-82, college: Indiana, agency: Interperformances) notched 20 points and 8 rebounds to lead the effort and forward Jonathan Mitchell (200-87, college: Rutgers) supported him with 22 points and 6 rebounds. Even a double-double of 21 points and 12 rebounds by forward Herb Pope (203-89, college: Seton Hall) did not help to save the game for Bnei Hasharon. Forward Jumaine Jones (203-79, college: Georgia) added 8 points, 11 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals for the guests. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. GreenTops Netanya (2-0) keeps a position of league leader, which they share with Maccabi T-A and Maccabi Rishon. Bnei Hasharon at the other side dropped to the sixth place with one game lost. They share the position with Hapoel T-A and Hapoel Eilat. GreenTops Netanya will play against Hapoel J-M (#11) in Jerusalem in the next round and are hoping to win another game.
