Everything went according to plan when sixth ranked Pioneros (10-7) outplayed 14th ranked Gansos (3-14) in Cancun 103-71 on Thursday. The game without a history. Pioneros led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. Pioneros forced 22 Gansos turnovers and outrebounded them 39-28 including 25 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists comparing to just 7 passes made by Gansos' players. American forward Jeremis Smith (203-86, college: Georgia Tech) nailed a double-double by scoring 16 points and 10 rebounds for the winning side and the former international guard Forrest Fisher (193-80) accounted for 23 points. Five Pioneros players scored in double figures. American guard Shannon Shorter (193-89, college: N.Texas) came up with 18 points and forward Jose Perez (197) added 18 points and 5 rebounds respectively for Gansos in the defeat. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Pioneros moved-up to fifth place, which they share with 3 other teams. Newly promoted Gansos keep the fourteenth position with 14 games lost. Pioneros will meet at home Guerreros (#13) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Gansos will play against Soles in Mexicali and hope to secure a win.
