Regular Season Round 4: Tigers - Breakers 64-75

Date: October 26, 2012
Bottom-ranked Melbourne Tigers (0-4) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 75-64 loss to third ranked New Zealand Breakers (3-1) in Melbourne. The game without a history. New Zealand Breakers led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. New Zealand Breakers forced 21 Melbourne Tigers turnovers. 27 personal fouls committed by Melbourne Tigers helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The winners were led by American guard Cedric Jackson (191-86, college: Cleveland St.) who scored that evening 19 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists and 5 steals (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field) and New Zealand swingman Thomas Abercrombie (198-87, college: Washington St., agency: Priority Sports) supported him with 20 points and 5 rebounds. Even a double-double of 25 points and 10 rebounds by American power forward Seth Scott (208-81, college: Portland St.) did not help to save the game for Melbourne Tigers. The former international power forward Adam Ballinger (205-79, college: Michigan St.) added 15 points and 5 rebounds for lost side. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. New Zealand Breakers have a solid three-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains third position with 3-1 record behind leader Hawks. Melbourne Tigers at the other side still closes the standings with four games lost. New Zealand Breakers' next round opponent will be Kings (#4) in Sydney. Melbourne Tigers will play at home against Townsville Crocodiles in Wulguru and look forward to get finally their first victory.
