Regular Season Round 2: Las Rozas - Gernika 71-62

There was a minor upset when one of their biggest challengers Gernika (1-1) lost on the road to ninth ranked Las Rozas (1-1) 71-62 on Saturday. The hosts trailed by 8 points after first quarter, but they rallied back and won the game by 9 points. American center Shannon Thomas (193-90, college: Indiana St.) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 12 points and 11 rebounds. Carlota Egusquiza contributed with 8 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. Bulgarian forward Evelina Guneva (183-80, agency: Interperformances) replied with 18 points and 7 rebounds and power forward Nerea Moreno (185-88) added 15 points and 7 rebounds in the effort for Gernika. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Las Rozas left bottom position moving up to third place in Group B, which they share with 7 other teams including defeated Gernika. Las Rozas will face Fundal Alcobendas (#10) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Gernika will play against ASEFA Estudiantes (#5) in Madrid and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
