Regular Season Round 4: Toyota Alvark - Aishin SH 66-83

The most crucial game of the last round was the first loss of undefeated Toyota Alvark (7-1) in Fuchu on Saturday night. Hosts were defeated by third ranked Aishin Sea Horses (5-3) 83-66. The game without a history. Aishin Sea Horses led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to Toyota Alvark's 36 and made 17-of-20 free shots (85.0 percent) during the game. Worth to mention a great performance of swingman Shuhei Kitagawa (185-85) who helped to win the game recording 23 points and 5 rebounds. The former international power forward J.R. Sakuragi (206-76, college: UCLA) contributed with 14 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. Five Aishin Sea Horses players scored in double figures. International guard Keijuro Matsui (188-85, college: Columbia) replied with 22 points (made all of his eight free throws) and American forward Jeff Gibbs (188-80, college: Otterbein) added 12 points and 8 rebounds in the effort for Toyota Alvark. Toyota Alvark's coach Don Beck rotated ten players seeing no chance for a win. Aishin Sea Horses maintains third position with 5-3 record having just two points less than leader Toyota Alvark, which they share with Toshiba BT. Defending champion Toyota Alvark still keeps top place with one game lost. Aishin Sea Horses is looking forward to face bottom-ranked Tochigi Brex (#8) at home in the next round where they are favorite. Toyota Alvark will play against Toshiba Thunders (#4) in Kanagawa and is hoping to win this game.
