Very predictable result in Leon where fourth ranked Halcones Rojos (13-5) smashed 12th ranked Lechugueros (5-13) 81-57. It looked good early as Lechugueros took an 2-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Halcones Rojos had a 19-15 second period charge getting the lead and Lechugueros were not able to take back game control losing it eventually 57-81. Halcones Rojos dominated down low during the game scoring 46 of its points in the paint compared to Lechugueros' 24. Halcones Rojos forced 19 Lechugueros turnovers. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 23 assists. American point guard Mike Mitchell (181-83, college: N.Mexico St., agency: Two Points) notched 19 points, 6 rebounds and 8 assists to lead the effort and the former international guard Francisco Cruz (190-89, college: Wyoming) supported him with 10 points and 4 assists. Even a double-double of 15 points and 12 rebounds by Senegalese center Babacar Camara (211-81, college: CS Fullerton) did not help to save the game for Lechugueros. Naturalized American forward Adrian Sanchez (196-86) added 13 points. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Halcones Rojos maintains fourth position with 13-5 record. Lechugueros lost sixth consecutive game. They keep the twelfth place with 13 games lost. Halcones Rojos will play against Huracanes (#9) in Tampico in the next round where they are favorite. Lechugueros will play on the road against Barreteros in Zacatecas and hope to get back on the winning track.
