Regular Season Round 18: Barreteros - Huracanes 89-97
Date: October 27, 2012
We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams in Zacatecas where 8th ranked Barreteros (10-8) were defeated by ninth ranked Huracanes (9-7) 97-89. The guests were already 11 points ahead after 3 quarters before a 25-22 Barreteros' run in the last quarter cut the lead to 97-89 at the end of the game. They outrebounded Barreteros 45-31 including 17 on the offensive glass. American swingman Marcus Morrison (198-84, college: Middle Tenn.St.) notched 20 points and 8 rebounds to lead the effort and the former international center Rodrigo Zamora (206-86, college: Montana St.) supported him with 16 points and 9 rebounds. Huracanes' coach Luis Lopez allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Even a double-double of 20 points and 14 assists by American guard Jason Horton (188-86, college: Missouri) did not help to save the game for Barreteros. His fellow American import forward Jerome Habel (208-85, college: San Diego St.) added 27 points and 8 rebounds (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field). Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Huracanes maintains ninth position with 9-7 record. Barreteros at the other side dropped to the seventh place with eight games lost. They share the position with Abejas. Huracanes will play against higher ranked Halcones Rojos (#4) in Veracruz in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Barreteros will play at home against Lechugueros in Leon and hope to get back on the winning track.
