Regular Season Round 3: Peristeri GS - Apollon Patras 76-74
Date: October 27, 2012
Very predictable result in Athens where fifth ranked Peristeri GS (2-1) edged bottom-ranked Apollon Patras (0-3) 76-74 on Saturday. However just two-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. The hosts trailed by 3 points after three quarters before their 18-13 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Peristeri GS forced 19 Apollon Patras turnovers. It was a great evening for forward Andreas Kanonidis (198-91) who led his team to a victory scoring 18 points and 9 rebounds. American point guard Dwight Thorne (190-88, college: Colorado) helped adding 14 points. Thorne is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Four Peristeri GS players scored in double figures. Peristeri GS's coach Tzimis Koustenis used an eleven-player rotation in such tough game. The best for the losing side was naturalized Serbian swingman Vladimir Petrovic-Stergiou (199-77, agency: BeoExcell) with 19 points and 6 assists (on 8-of-9 shooting from the field) and American point guard Errick McCollum (185-88, college: Goshen, agency: Gross Zeev ISA) scored 15 points and 7 assists. Peristeri GS moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Panathinaikos and KAOD. Newly promoted Apollon Patras still closes the standings with three games lost. Peristeri GS will face PAOK (#7) in Thessaloniki in the next round. Apollon Patras will play at home against Kavala (#14) and hopes to get finally their first victory.
