Regular Season Round 18: Soles - Gansos 103-71
Date: October 27, 2012
There was no surprise in Mexicali where 14th ranked Gansos (3-15) were outplayed by third ranked Soles (14-4) 103-71. The game was mostly controlled by Soles. Gansos was better in third quarter 22-17. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated down low during the game scoring 72 of its points in the paint compared to Gansos' 26. Soles players were unselfish on offense dishing 27 assists comparing to just 14 passes made by Gansos' players. The former international forward Roman Martinez (201-88, college: N.Mexico) notched 20 points and 6 rebounds to lead the effort and American Alexander Franklin (196-88, college: Siena) supported him with 16 points, 5 rebounds, 7 assists and 4 steals. Four Soles players scored in double figures. Even 21 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists (went 11 for 11 at the free throw line !!!) by American guard Shannon Shorter (193-89, college: N.Texas) did not help to save the game for Gansos. Ivan Silva added 19 points. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Soles have an impressive 13-game winning streak. They maintain third position with 14-4 record having just three points less than leader Halc.Xalapa. Newly promoted Gansos keep the fourteenth place with 15 games lost. Soles will play against Gigantes (#15) in the next round which should be another easy win for them. Gansos will play against the league's second-placed Toros in Nuevo Laredo and hope to get back on the winning track.
