Regular Season Round 3: Kavala - Panionios 84-87

Very expected game when bottom-ranked Kavala (0-3) was edged at home by leader Panionios (3-0) 87-84 on Saturday. Kavala was tied after three quarters but could not keep up in the last quarter eventually losing the game. Panionios made 24-of-29 free shots (82.8 percent) during the game. Panionios outrebounded Kavala 41-25 including 28 on the defensive glass. Kavala was plagued by 27 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a great evening for the former international guard Nikos Pappas (195-90, agency: FCM) who led his team to a victory scoring 32 points and 8 rebounds. American forward Landon Milbourne (201-87, college: Maryland, agency: Three Eye Sports) helped adding 20 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. The best for the losing side was guard Yannis Gagaloudis (192-78) with 23 points and 4 assists and American forward William Coleman (206-88, college: Memphis) scored 15 points, 6 rebounds and 5 blocks (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line). Four Kavala players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Panionios have a solid series of three victories in a row. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with Olympiacos and Kolossos. Loser Kavala still closes the standings with three games lost. Panionios will face league's leader Kolossos in Rodou in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Kavala will play on the road against Apollon Patras (#13) and hopes to get finally their first victory.
