Regular Season Round 8: HoNsU - HyPo 77-61

There was no surprise in Jyvaskyla where 9th ranked HyPo (1-6) was defeated by seventh ranked HoNsU (3-3) 77-61 on Sunday. The hosts trailed by 10 points after first quarter, but they stormed back and won the game by 16 points. HoNsU dominated on the defensive end, holding HyPo to just 6 points in third quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to HyPo's 34. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when HoNsU made 11 blocks. The best player for the winners was guard Laura Lahtinen (174-86) who scored 24 points and 4 assists. American point guard Nia Jackson (170-89, college: Oregon, agency: Gamble Sports Management) chipped in 16 points, 5 assists and 5 steals. American power forward Amber Land (188-85, college: E.Michigan) produced a double-double by scoring 12 points and 14 rebounds and her fellow American import forward Kathlyn Varno (185-88, college: Wofford) added 12 points and 8 rebounds respectively for the guests. Four HyPo players scored in double figures. HyPo's coach Besim Maxhuni rotated ten players seeing no chance for a win. HoNsU moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Huima and PeKa. HyPo lost fifth consecutive game. Newly promoted team dropped to the tenth position with six games lost. HoNsU will face higher ranked Honka (#3) in Espoo in the next round and it may be quite challenging game.
