Regular Season Round 3: Hapoel Eilat - Maccabi Haifa 80-62

There was a change at the Winner League leadership position after last games. Round 3 most important game was a defeat of league's leader Maccabi Haifa (2-1). They were defeated by sixth ranked Hapoel Eilat (2-1) 80-62 on Sunday night. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Maccabi Haifa. The game was mostly controlled by Hapoel Eilat. Maccabi Haifa managed to win fourth quarter 22-14. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Americans were the main players on the court. It was a great evening for guard Scotty Hopson (200-89, college: Tennessee) who led his team to a victory scoring 19 points and 6 rebounds. Guard Austin Freeman (190-89, college: Georgetown) helped adding 16 points and 6 assists. Four Hapoel Eilat players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was Donta Smith (201-83, college: SE Illinois JC) with 15 points and 5 assists and power forward James Thomas (203-80, college: Texas) produced a double-double by scoring 11 points and 10 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Hapoel Eilat moved-up to third place, which they share with 5 other teams including defeated Maccabi Haifa. Maccabi Haifa will play next round against Maccabi T-A trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Hapoel Eilat will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game.
