Date: October 28, 2012
Undefeated Cagliari CUS (1-1) recorded its first loss on the court of sixth ranked Lucca on Sunday night. Visitors were defeated by Lucca 69-62. It was a key game for the second position in the league. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 20-14. But Cagliari CUS won second period 20-16. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The best player for the winners was Slovakian center Marie Ruzickova (189-86, agency: LBM Management) who scored 19 points and 6 rebounds. Portuguese forward Mery Andrade (181-75, college: ODU) chipped in 15 points and 6 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was guard Cinzia Arioli (178-84) who recorded 16 points and 6 rebounds and American forward Melissa Goodall (189-89, college: Toledo) added 12 points and 5 rebounds respectively. Cagliari CUS's coach Federico Xaxa rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Lucca (2-1) moved-up to second place, which they share with 3 other teams. Loser Cagliari CUS dropped to the sixth position with one game lost. They share it with Familia Schio and Chieti. Lucca will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Cagliari CUS will play against Parma (#4) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
