There was no surprise when bottom-ranked Assignia Manresa (0-5) was defeated on the road by seventh ranked Unicaja Malaga (4-1) 88-70 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by Unicaja Malaga. Assignia Manresa was better in third quarter 16-14. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Assignia Manresa 39-23 including 25 on the defensive glass. The best player for the winners was Slovenian swingman Zoran Dragic (196-89) who scored 20 points and 5 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). American guard Marcus Williams (191-85, college: Connecticut) chipped in 15 points and 4 assists. Four Unicaja Malaga players scored in double figures. Guard Jose Salvador Arco (194-85) produced 19 points and center Oliver Arteaga (211-83) added 13 points respectively for the guests. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Unicaja Malaga have a solid series of four victories in a row. They moved-up to second place, which they share with 4 other teams. Assignia Manresa at the other side still closes the standings with five games lost. Unicaja Malaga will face Gescrap BB (#3) in Bilbao in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Assignia Manresa will play at home against Lagun Aro GBC (#18) in San Sebastian and hopes to get finally their first victory.
