There was a minor upset in Tokyo where 9th ranked Ebara Vickies (3-7) were defeated by eleventh ranked Hitachi Cougars (2-8) 69-61 on Sunday. The guests trailed by 2 points at the halftime before their 39-29 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. Hitachi Cougars dominated on the defensive end, holding Ebara Vickies to just 7 points in first quarter. The best player for the winners was international forward Mami Yamada (176-88) who scored 19 points and 9 rebounds. Guard Hiroko Noda (164-83) chipped in 12 points and 5 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was swingman Misako Rikuden (172-86) who recorded 14 points and 6 rebounds and forward Kazumi Ogawa (178-86) added 10 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists respectively. Four Ebara Vickies players scored in double figures. Hitachi Cougars moved-up to tenth place, which they share with Aishin AW. Ebara Vickies lost sixth consecutive game. Ebara Vickies at the other side, also newcomer in the league, keep the ninth position with seven games lost. Hitachi Cougars will face bottom-ranked Yamanashi QB (#12) on the road in the next round.
