Regular Season Round 8: BC Nokia - TuRi 80-81

TuRi can celebrate finally their first win this season after five consecutive loses. The victory is especially important as it came on the road game in Nokia, where they edged BC Nokia (0-7) 81-80 on Sunday. The guests trailed by 6 points after three quarters before their 23-16 charge, which allowed them to win the game. TuRi forced 28 BC Nokia turnovers. Worth to mention a great performance of Canadian guard Brittany Hedderson (175-90, college: Buffalo) who helped to win the game recording 21 points and guard Katleena Karkkainen (174-92) who added 20 points during the contest. TuRi's coach Juha Ruohonen used an eleven-player rotation in such tough game. American guard Amani Franklin (180-88, college: Kentucky) responded with a double-double by scoring 24 points and 12 rebounds and guard Katri Menna (170-86) scored 14 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. TuRi (1-5) left bottom position moving up to ninth place. It was BC Nokia's seventh loss in a row. BC Nokia at the other side, also newcomer in the league, still closes the standings with seven games lost. TuRi will meet at home higher ranked Forssan Alku (#4) in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. BC Nokia will play against Peli-Karhut (#6) in Kotka and hopes to get finally their first victory.
