Regular Season Round 6: Valur - Keflavik 65-69

An interesting game for Keflavik (6-0) which played road game in Reykjavik against 3rd ranked Valur (4-2). Top-ranked Keflavik managed to get a 4-point victory 69-65. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Valur. Valur was trailing by 3 points at halftime but managed to get 5-point lead after three quarters before a 24-15 charge of Keflavik, which allowed them to win the game. They also forced 33 Valur turnovers. Strangely Valur outrebounded Keflavik 50-26 including a 25-6 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Keflavik made 8 blocks. It was a good game for the former international guard Palina Gunnlaugsdottir (168-87) who led her team to a victory with 20 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 5 steals. American guard Jessica Jenkins (172-90, college: St.Bonaventure) contributed with 16 points and 7 assists for the winners. The former international forward Kristrun Sigurjonsdottir (176-85) replied with 22 points and guard Gudbjorg Sverrisdottir (180-92) added 12 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists in the effort for Valur. Keflavik have an impressive six-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 6-0 record. Valur at the other side keeps the third place with two games lost. They share the position with KR. Keflavik are looking forward to face Fjolnir (#6) in Reykjavik in the next round where they are favorite. Valur will play on the road against Njardvik and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
