Ninth-ranked Huracanes (9-8) made lots of trouble for fourth ranked Halcones Rojos (14-5) in Tampico on Thursday. The visitors from Veracruz managed to secure only two-point victory 88-86. However their fans expected much easier game. The guests trailed by 7 points after three quarters before their 27-18 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Halcones Rojos made 16-of-20 free shots (80.0 percent) during the game. It was a great evening for Venezuelan power forward Luis Bethelmy (200-86) who led his team to a victory scoring 19 points and 9 rebounds. American forward Leroy Davis (200-81, college: Georgia St.) helped adding 24 points. Halcones Rojos' coach Eddie Casiano used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. At the losing side point guard Hector Nungaray (178-78) responded with 12 points, 6 rebounds and 9 assists and American center Donald Little (211-78, college: Cincinnati) scored 22 points (perfect from the field making all six shots). Four Halcones Rojos and five Huracanes players scored in double figures. Halcones Rojos maintains fourth place with 14-5 record. Loser Huracanes dropped to the tenth position with eight games lost. Halcones Rojos will meet Correcaminos (#11) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Huracanes will play against the league's leader Halcones UV Xalapa and hope to secure a win.
