Regular Season Round 5: IR - Grindavik 105-99

There was a surprise result in Reykjavik where ninth ranked IR (2-3) defeated second-ranked Grindavik (3-2) 105-99 on Thursday. The hosts trailed by 8 points at the halftime before their 61-47 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. IR shot the lights out from three sinking 14 long-distance shots on high 58.3 percentage. The best player for the winners was American guard Eric Palm (188-87, college: McKendree) who scored 35 points (!!!) and 4 assists (was perfect 9-for-9 from the free throw line !!!). Serbian-Canadian forward Nemanja Sovic (198-77, college: Pfeiffer) chipped in 24 points and 7 rebounds (perfect behind the arc making all five shots). American point guard Sammy Zeglinski (182-88, college: Virginia) produced 28 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists and the former international swingman Johann Olafsson (194-86) added 25 points respectively for the guests. Four IR and five Grindavik players scored in double figures. IR moved-up to eighth place, which they share with Keflavik and KFI. Defending champion Grindavik dropped to the fourth position with two games lost. IR will face league's second-placed Stjarnan on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Grindavik will play against Skallagrimur in Borgarnes and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
