LBL top team - VEF Riga (5-0) had no problems winning another game. This time they crushed seventh ranked Jekabpils (2-4) 84-59. The game without a history. VEF Riga led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 44 of its points in the paint compared to Jekabpils' 22. VEF Riga forced 20 Jekabpils turnovers and outrebounded them 37-22 including 22 on the defensive glass. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of American-Bulgarian guard Earl Rowland (188-83, college: St.Mary's, CA) who helped to win the game recording 6 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists. Lithuanian center Antanas Kavaliauskas (207-84, college: Texas A&M, agency: Interperformances) contributed with 15 points (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field) for the winners. American forward P.J. Hill jr. (182-87, college: Ohio St.) answered with 18 points and 4 assists and guard Kristaps Mediss (188-89, agency: FCM) added 11 points in the effort for Jekabpils. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. The victory was the fifth consecutive win for VEF Riga. Defending champion maintains first place with 5-0 record. Newly promoted Jekabpils dropped to the eighth position with four games lost. VEF Riga will have a break next round. Jekabpils will play on the road against the league's second-placed Valmiera (#2).
