Regular Season Round 3: Segle XXI - Pais Vasco 58-66

Everything could happen in Barcelona at the game between two tied teams. Both third ranked Pais Vasco and 9th ranked Segle XXI had identical 1-1 record. But Segle XXI was not able to use a home court advantage and was defeated by the opponent from San Sebastian 66-58 on Saturday night. Segle XXI trailed by 15 points after 3 quarters before a 17-10 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 58-66 at the end of the game. It was a great evening for American center Stephanie Madden (185-88, college: Langston) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 29 points and 12 rebounds. point guard Maria Gomez (170-82) helped adding 14 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. The best for the losing side was Belen Arrojo (-95) with 13 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists and point guard Angela Salvadores (175-97) scored 17 points and 6 rebounds. Segle XXI's coach Ramon Jordana tested ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Pais Vasco maintains third place in Group B with 2-1 record behind leader Casablanca, which they share with 3 other teams. Loser Segle XXI dropped to the seventh position with two games lost. Pais Vasco will face league's second-placed Real Canoe in Madrid in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Segle XXI will play on the road against Las Rozas (#7) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
