Regular Season Round 9: Salon Vilpas - Kouvot 88-65

An interesting game took place in Salon where higher ranked Kouvot (4-4) was upset on the court of eleventh ranked Salon Vilpas (2-6) 88-65 on Saturday. The game without a history. Salon Vilpas led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. Salon Vilpas outrebounded Kouvot 39-24 including 25 on the defensive glass. American forward Troy Barnies (200-89, college: Maine) stepped up and scored 24 points and 9 rebounds for the winners and his fellow American import forward Shawn Atupem (200-89, college: Mt.St.Mary's) chipped in 24 points and 7 rebounds. Coach Mikko Tupamaki's team controlled all game and the coach could let to play 11 players saving starting five for next games. The best for the losing side was Puerto Rican forward Gilberto Clavell (201-89, college: Sam Houston St., agency: KMG Sports Management) with 18 points and 8 rebounds and international point guard Antto Nikkarinen (185-91) scored 12 points. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Salon Vilpas moved-up to ninth place, which they share with FoKoPo and Lapua. Loser Kouvot keeps the sixth position with four games lost. Salon Vilpas will face league's leader Tampereen Pyrinto on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
