Barreteros (#9) forced the game against Abejas (#8) into an overtime, but lost by four points 107-111 on Saturday night. The game took place in Zacatecas. But the guests from Guanajuato were better at the end. Barreteros were tied after three quarters and then recorded another tie at the end of regular time. They were eventually defeated in overtime 15-19s. American players dominated the game. The winners were led by forward Steffphon Pettigrew (195, college: W.Kentucky) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 41 points (!!!), 15 rebounds and 5 assists and forward Eugene Phelps (198, college: Long Beach St.) supported him with 21 points and 10 rebounds. Abejas' coach Daniel Jaule used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. Even a double-double of 33 points (!!!) and 13 assists (was perfect 12-for-12 from the free throw line !!!) by guard Jason Horton (188-86, college: Missouri) did not help to save the game for Barreteros. Guard Lamont Sumpter (183-86, college: McMurry) added 19 points and 7 assists for the hosts. Five Abejas and four Barreteros players scored in double figures. Abejas maintains eighth position with 11-9 record. Barreteros lost third consecutive game. They keep the ninth place with ten games lost. Abejas will meet at home Correcaminos (#11) in the next round. Barreteros will play against Halcones Rojos in Veracruz and hope to secure a win.
