Regular Season Round 13: Niigata - Fujitsu RW 49-90

WJBL top team - Fujitsu RW (11-0) had no problems winning another game. This time they crushed eighth ranked Niigata (4-7) in Tokyo 90-49. Fujitsu RW dominated on the defensive end, holding Niigata to just 7 points in first quarter. They also forced 20 Niigata turnovers and outrebounded them 43-23 including a 29-17 advantage in defensive rebounds. Fujitsu RW shot the lights out from three nailing 13 long-distance shots on high 56.5 percentage. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 24 assists comparing to just 11 passes made by Niigata's players. International forward Moeko Nagaoka (180-93) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 24 points and 10 rebounds for the winners and swingman Asami Shimizu (173-89) chipped in 13 points and 5 rebounds. At the losing side forward Inoue Ai (172-90) responded with 19 points and guard Seiko Kawakami (165-88) scored 10 points. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Fujitsu RW have an impressive series of eleven victories in a row. They maintain first place with 11-0 record, which they share with JX Sunflowers. Niigata at the other side dropped to the seventh position with seven games lost. They share it with Denso Iris. Fujitsu RW will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Niigata will play again on the road against the league's leader Fujitsu RW (#1) in Kawasaki and hopes to get back on the winning track.
