Rather predictable result in Saporro where fifth ranked Hitachi Sunrockers (6-4) smashed 7th ranked Hokkaido L. (1-9) 72-43 on Sunday. The game without a history. Hitachi Sunrockers led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to Hokkaido L.'s 30. They outrebounded Hokkaido L. 44-24 including a 32-18 advantage in defensive rebounds. American power forward Jamar Smith (206-80, college: Maryland) stepped up and scored 20 points and 7 rebounds for the winners and the former international forward Yuki Mitsuhara (198-89) chipped in 7 points and 8 rebounds. American forward Joevan Catron (198-88, college: Oregon) responded with 13 points and international forward Daisuke Noguchi (196-83) scored 5 points and 5 rebounds. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The victory was the fifth consecutive win for Hitachi Sunrockers. They moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Toshiba BT. Hokkaido L. lost their fourth game in a row. They keep the seventh position with nine games lost. Hitachi Sunrockers will face league's leader Toyota Alvark in Fuchu in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Hokkaido L. will play at home against Toshiba Thunders (#5) in Kanagawa and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
