Regular Season Round 7: Keflavik - Fjolnir 79-69 OT

Seventh-ranked Fjolnir (1-6) gave a tough game to leader Keflavik (7-0) on Tuesday. Keflavik managed to secure only ten-point victory 79-69. However their fans expected much easier game. Fjolnir was trailing by 14 points at halftime but managed to get 5-point lead after three quarters before a 19-14 charge of Keflavik, which allowed them to tie the game at the end of regular time. They were better in overtime eventually winning that period 16-6. Keflavik made 16-of-21 free shots (76.2 percent) during the game. They also forced 21 Fjolnir turnovers. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Keflavik made 7 blocks. It was a great evening for American guard Jessica Jenkins (172-90, college: St.Bonaventure) who led her team to a victory scoring 25 points and 6 rebounds. The former international guard Palina Gunnlaugsdottir (168-87) helped adding 23 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Keflavik's coach used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. At the losing side American guard Britney Jones (172-87, college: UAB) responded with 28 points, 6 assists and 9 steals and the former international forward Fanney Gudmundsdottir (179-89) produced a double-double by scoring 10 points and 20 rebounds. They have an impressive series of seven victories in a row. Keflavik maintains first place with 7-0 record. Fjolnir at the other side keeps the seventh position with six games lost. Keflavik will face Haukar (#5) in Hafnarfjordur in the next round. Fjolnir will play on the road against Njardvik and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
