Regular Season Round 21: Lechugueros - Huracanes 69-71

A very close game took place in Leon between Huracanes and Lechugueros. Tenth ranked Huracanes (10-9) got a very close victory on the road over 12th ranked Lechugueros (6-15). Huracanes managed to escape with a 2-point win 71-69 on Thursday evening. The guests trailed by 5 points at the halftime before their 20-8 charge in the third quarter, which allowed them to win the game. Strangely Lechugueros outrebounded Huracanes 47-32 including a 36-20 advantage in defensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. American swingman Edward Basden (196-83, college: Charlotte) nailed 18 points and 4 assists for the winning side and his fellow American import swingman Marcus Morrison (198-84, college: Middle Tenn.St.) accounted for 16 points and 6 rebounds. Huracanes' coach Luis Lopez used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. Senegalese center Babacar Camara (211-81, college: CS Fullerton) came up with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 13 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) and Trinidad and Tobago-American point guard Ian Young (191-81, college: Auburn) added 16 points and 10 assists respectively for Lechugueros in the defeat. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Huracanes moved-up to ninth place. Loser Lechugueros keep the twelfth position with 15 games lost. They share it with Guerreros. Huracanes will meet higher ranked Abejas (#7) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Lechugueros will play against Correcaminos (#11) in Ciudad Victoria and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
