The most surprising game was a loss of top-ranked Halcones UV Xalapa (19-2) at the home court on Thursday night. Hosts were defeated by fifth ranked Panteras (14-7) 95-91. It ended at the same time the 13-game winning streak of Halcones UV Xalapa. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Halcones UV Xalapa won third quarter 22-20. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Panteras won last quarter 29-26. They made 20-of-25 free shots (80.0 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 29 assists. It was a good game for Panamanian power forward Antonio Garcia (203-76, college: Ky Wesleyan) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 23 points, 11 rebounds and 7 assists (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field). Puerto Rican point guard Ricardo Melendez (179-83, agency: Paris Global Sports) contributed with 32 points and 9 assists for the winners. American guard LeRoy Hickerson (196-82, college: Cumberlands) answered with 21 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists and Venezuelan point guard Gregory Vargas (180-86) added 16 points, 11 assists and 4 steals in the effort for Halcones UV Xalapa. Four Panteras and five Halcones UV Xalapa players scored in double figures. Halcones UV Xalapa's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Panteras have an impressive series of five victories in a row. They maintain fifth place with 14-7 record, which they share with Pioneros. Halcones UV Xalapa at the other side still keeps top position with two games lost. Panteras is looking forward to face higher ranked Halcones Rojos (#4) in Veracruz in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Halcones UV Xalapa will play at home against Barreteros in Zacatecas and is hoping to win this game.
