Regular Season Round 15: JX Sunflowers - Fujitsu RW 88-61

Round 15 in WJBL means a new league leader. The biggest surprise took place in Kashiwa where host JX Sunflowers (13-0) crushed league's leader Fujitsu RW (12-1) 88-61 on Friday evening. It ended at the same time the 12-game winning streak of Fujitsu RW. It was a key game for the top position in the league. The game was mostly controlled by JX Sunflowers. Fujitsu RW managed to win fourth quarter 16-13. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. JX Sunflowers made 23-of-29 free shots (79.3 percent) during the game. JX Sunflowers had a 29-18 advantage in offensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was the former international power forward Ramu Tokashiki (191-91) who had a double-double by scoring 15 points, 14 rebounds and 4 blocks. Guard Aya Okamoto (161-91) chipped in 22 points and 5 rebounds. Five JX Sunflowers players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was international power forward Megumi Shinohara (184-91) who recorded 18 points and 8 rebounds and international forward Yoko Nagi (175-82) added 14 points respectively. JX Sunflowers have an impressive series of thirteen victories in a row. Defending champion keeps a position of league leader. Fujitsu RW at the other side dropped to the second place with one game lost. They were replaced at the leadership position by JX Sunflowers. Fujitsu RW will have a break next week, which should allow them to rest and make it back to the top of the standings. JX Sunflowers will try to continue on its current victory against second ranked Fujitsu RW in Kawasaki.
