Rather predictable result when top-ranked Calgary (4-0) won against 3rd ranked Alberta (2-2) in Exshaw 76-72 on Friday. The hosts trailed by 2 points at the halftime before their 38-32 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. Calgary made 19-of-25 free shots (76.0 percent) during the game. They also forced 19 Alberta turnovers. Strangely Alberta outrebounded Calgary 42-25 including 17 on the offensive glass. It was a great shooting night for Calgary especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 57.9 percentage. It was a very good performance for British point guard Kristie Sheils (173-91) who helped to win the game recording 27 points. Guard Tamara Jarrett (168-91) contributed with 19 points and 6 rebounds (made all of her eight free throws) for the winners. Forward Anneka Bakker (186-90) replied with 18 points and 6 rebounds and Jessilyn Fairbanks added 15 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Alberta. Both coaches allowed to play bench players in such tough game. Calgary have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 4-0 record. Loser Alberta dropped to the fourth place with two games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
