Regular Season Round 5: New Brunsw. - Acadia 60-83

Date: November 10, 2012
There was no surprise in Fredericton, NB where bottom-ranked Varsity Reds (0-2) were crushed by leader Axemen (2-0) 83-60 on Saturday. Axemen held Varsity Reds to an opponent 22.7 percent shooting from the field compared to 42.3 percent accuracy of the winners and made 32-of-36 free shots (88.9 percent) during the game. Axemen outrebounded Varsity Reds 37-24 including a 34-18 advantage in defensive rebounds. Varsity Reds were plagued by 30 personal fouls down the stretch. The best player for the winners was international forward Owen Klassen (208-91) who had a double-double by scoring 17 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists. Thomas Filigiano chipped in 13 points. Five Axemen players scored in double figures. Guard William Mc Fee (190) produced 22 points and forward Ryan Smith (190) added 6 points respectively for the hosts. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Axemen keeps a position of league leader, which they share with 3 other teams. Loser Varsity Reds still closes the standings with two games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
