There was a minor upset in Guanajuato where 7th ranked Abejas (12-10) were defeated by ninth ranked Huracanes (11-9) 79-74 on Saturday. Abejas were trailing by 1 point at halftime but managed to get 3-point lead after three quarters before a 18-10 charge of Huracanes, which allowed them to win the game. American swingman Edward Basden (196-83, college: Charlotte) fired a double-double by scoring 17 points and 12 rebounds for the winners. The other American import swingman Marcus Morrison (198-84, college: Middle Tenn.St.) chipped in 22 points. American forward Steffphon Pettigrew (195, college: W.Kentucky) produced a double-double by scoring 12 points, 13 rebounds and 4 assists and Eric Abdu added 14 points and 5 rebounds respectively for lost side. Abejas' coach Daniel Jaule tested ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Huracanes moved-up to eighth place. Loser Abejas keep the seventh position with ten games lost. Huracanes will meet higher ranked Toros (#3) in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Abejas will play against Pioneros (#5) in Cancun and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
