Regular Season Round 5: Hondar.-Irun - Gran Canaria 67-61

There was a minor upset when higher ranked Gran Canaria (2-3) was defeated on the road by ninth ranked Hondarribia-Irun (2-3) 67-61. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 17-12. But Gran Canaria won second period 20-17. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Strangely Gran Canaria outrebounded Hondarribia-Irun 39-27 including a 16-3 advantage in offensive rebounds. Chilean center Tatiana Gomez (193-81, agency: Josep and Nicolas) nailed 17 points and 8 rebounds for the winning side and point guard Sandra Ygueravide (172-84, agency: Josep and Nicolas) accounted for 14 points and 5 assists. Hondarribia-Irun's coach Anne Pena allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Leticia Romero (176-95) came up with 18 points and 4 assists and international power forward Vanessa Ble (190-91) added 8 points and 10 rebounds respectively for Gran Canaria in the defeat. Hondarribia-Irun moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Gran Canaria and Caja Rural. Hondarribia-Irun's next round opponent will be higher ranked Argon Uni Girona (#5) on the road and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
