Regular Season Round 15: Niigata - Hitachi Cougars 74-64

Everything could happen in Tokyo at the game between two tied teams. Both eighth ranked Niigata and 9th ranked Hitachi Cougars had identical 4-8 record. This time Niigata used a home court advantage and beat the opponent from Hitachinaka 74-64. The game was mostly controlled by Niigata. Hitachi Cougars was better in fourth quarter 29-18. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. It was an exceptional evening for guard Seiko Kawakami (165-88) who led the winners and scored 23 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. Swingman Sangi Kanade (169-86) accounted for 13 points for the winning side. Four Niigata players scored in double figures. Niigata's coach Zyuniti Ara used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. International forward Mami Yamada (176-88) came up with 25 points and 5 rebounds and guard Hiroko Noda (164-83) added 14 points respectively for Hitachi Cougars in the defeat. Niigata (5-8) moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Denso Iris and Toyota B SR. Newly promoted Hitachi Cougars keep the ninth position with nine games lost. Niigata's next round opponent will be again Hitachi Cougars (#9) in Hitachinaka.
