Regular Season Round 12: Tokyo Cinq R. - Gunma 80-85

There was an upset when higher ranked Tokyo Cinq R. (5-7) was defeated at home by eleventh ranked Gunma (1-13) 85-80 on Wednesday. The guests started the game with a very strong first quarter 30-18. But Tokyo Cinq R. won second period 20-10. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Gunma looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of guard Kenya Tomori (177-84) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 20 points and 12 assists and Vincentian center Nyika Williams (203-87, college: Pacific) who added 20 points and 8 rebounds during the contest. Five Gunma players scored in double figures. Gunma's coach Ryan Blackwell used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. The best for the losing side was guard Kenji Sato (180-79) with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 20 rebounds and American center Jonathan Jones (211-79, agency: TSS Management) scored 20 points and 8 rebounds. Newly promoted Gunma maintains eleventh position with 1-13 record. Loser Tokyo Cinq R. keeps the seventh place with seven games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
