Leader Halcones UV Xalapa delivered the twentieth first win on Thursday night. This time they beat 12th ranked Guerreros (7-16) 105-94. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Guerreros. The guests trailed by 1 point after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 13-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 105-94. Halcones UV Xalapa shot 62.7 percent from the field. The best player for the winners was American guard LeRoy Hickerson (196-82, college: Cumberlands) who scored 26 points and 5 rebounds (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field). International guard Orlando Mendez-Valdez (185-86, college: W.Kentucky) chipped in 18 points. American-Puerto Rican power forward Angel Alamo (206-85) produced 33 points (!!!) and 6 rebounds and American forward Travis Gabbidon (201, college: UTSA) added 21 points and 7 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Halcones UV Xalapa maintains first place with 21-2 record. Newly promoted Guerreros keep the twelfth position with 16 games lost. Halcones UV Xalapa are looking forward to face Gansos (#14) in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Guerreros will play against Halcones Rojos in Veracruz and are hoping to prove to their supporters that the loss was just an accident.
